Abstract

Electricity is an important source of energy in modern life, but the operational cost of the electric power system, especially thermal-based power plants such as diesel, is very large. Mini-grids that use diesel power plants have high costs. Integration of renewable energy such as photovoltaics (PV) can reduce fuel consumption, but challenges arise due to resource instability and varying load profiles, making it difficult to schedule diesel generators for high efficiency. Therefore, economic optimization is needed. Selayar Island uses a hybrid system of diesel with 12 diesel units and 1.3 MWp solar power plants. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Differential Evolution (DE) method in economic scheduling and reducing fuel costs in the Selayar electricity system.
