Comparison of Reactive and Proactive Routing Protocols Using SUMO and NS3 Simulations in VANET Networks (Case Study in Losari Beach Area, Makassar City)

Abstract

The development of Information Communication Technology is currently experiencing rapid growth. Along with this development, problems that we can find in everyday life are also found. One technology that can help solve this problem is by using Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) technology which enables good and efficient productivity and mobility. VANET is a wireless network and a sub-section of the Mobile Ad-Hoc Network that represents nodes as vehicles and highways as routes that will be passed by vehicles or nodes. In urban areas, vehicle movement cannot be predicted due to changes in speed and uneven distribution. This study will compare the performance of reactive (AODV) and proactive (OLSR) routing protocols with simulation scenarios in the Losari Beach area, Makassar City. Testing the performance of the routing protocol uses Quality of Service testing parameters including packet delivery ratio (PDR), end to end delay (E2ED), and throughput. From the research using 50, 80 and 110 node scenarios, it is known that OLSR has the best performance in the 50 node scenario at a PDR of 87.4%, E2ED of 0.09311 ms, and throughput of 2.43002 Kbps. While for AODV with the best performance in the 50 node scenario with a PDR of 89.2%, E2ED with a value of 1.72425 ms, and throughput of 2.05873 Kbps. So that the OLSR routing protocol is a routing protocol that is suitable for use in urban areas with a fairly dense number of vehicles. While for AODV it can be used in various conditions of non-dense mobility and is easy to adapt.
