Automatic Bus Passenger Counter

To go to remote areas or areas that are difficult to reach, of course, certain transportation is needed to reach them, one of the public transportation that can be used is inter-regional buses. In checking the number of bus passengers, the conductor or assistant driver still does manual calculations. This can hinder the punctuality of the bus arrival if at the time of checking the number of passengers does not match the real number on the bus or there is an error in the calculation so that there are passengers left behind when making a stop. This study aims to design a tool that can automatically count the number of passengers on the bus which will be displayed on the LCD and can be monitored by the conductor or assistant driver via the monitor screen provided on the bus. To assist the monitoring process, this study also designed a website that functions to manage the passenger database and display the condition of the bus in real time. This tool uses NodeMCU ESP8266 as a microcontroller that will control the reader and infrared sensor in reading the smart card that will be used by passengers. The test results of this study are that the designed tool successfully reads passenger information entering or exiting the bus from the smart card read by the reader and the number of passengers on the bus is displayed on the LCD. In addition, the bus condition can be monitored by the conductor in real time via a monitor.Downloads
